Intended Audience: All neonatal nurses
 
Purpose of this CNE activity: The Academy of Neonatal Nursing provides clinically current information on the technical, medical, and nursing aspects of neonatal care as well as the legal and ethical implications related to that care. This CNE activity provides information to nurses and other health care professionals who care for newborn, premature, and ill infants and their families. Specific objectives for this presentation are listed below.

Session Description: What is the current status of BPD in U.S. NICUs? Dr. Spitzer discusses documenting the frequency of occurrence, current methods for treatment and prevention, and why these therapies do not seem to have had the hoped for impact. He will also suggest approaches for the future.

Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  • Relate the changing definition of BPD.
  • Discuss outcome trends in neonatal medicine during the past decade, comparing BPD to other trend lines.
  • Describe current etiological factors in the development of BPD and how these might be (or might not be) amenable to change.
Requirements for Completion: The following requirements are necessary for successful completion of this CNE activity.
  • Access to a computer with an Internet connection
  • Attend/view at least 90% of the session
  • Complete and submit the evaluation for this CNE activity
