Intended Audience: All neonatal nurses
 
Purpose of this CNE activity: The Academy of Neonatal Nursing provides clinically current information on the technical, medical, and nursing aspects of neonatal care as well as the legal and ethical implications related to that care. This CNE activity provides information to nurses and other health care professionals who care for newborn, premature, and ill infants and their families. Specific objectives for this presentation are listed below.

Session Description: Dr. Kim focuses on 1) Preventing postnatal growth restriction using early amino acids administration and higher protein containing formulas; 2) Human milk fortification using human milk analyses, and 3) Prevention of NEC with human milk, probiotics and lactoferrin.

Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the challenges facing the adequate provision of energy and nutrients to preterm infants.
  • Describe the best ways to stabilize the human gut microbiome.
  • Define the best approaches to determine the method of supplementation of preterm infants after discharge from hospital.

Requirements for Completion: The following requirements are necessary for successful completion of this CNE activity.
  • Access to a computer with an Internet connection
  • Attend/view at least 90% of the session
  • Complete and submit the evaluation for this CNE activity
