Intended Audience: All neonatal nurses
Purpose of this CNE activity: The Academy of Neonatal Nursing provides clinically current information on the technical, medical, and nursing aspects of neonatal care as well as the legal and ethical implications related to that care. This CNE activity provides information to nurses and other health care professionals who care for newborn, premature, and ill infants and their families. Specific objectives for this presentation are listed below.
Session Description: Dr. Keszler explores the basic causes and types of cardiopulmonary events in premature infants and their etiologies. Effective and ineffective therapies will be discussed as well as considerations for safe and timely discharge to home.

Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  • Discuss the pathophysiology, predisposing factors and natural course of apnea.
  • Describe the treatment of apnea/bradycardia events.
  • Enumerate the important considerations for safe and timely discharge to home in infants with history of apnea/bradycardia events
Requirements for Completion: The following requirements are necessary for successful completion of this CNE activity.
  • Access to a computer with an Internet connection
  • Attend/view at least 90% of the session
  • Complete and submit the evaluation for this CNE activity
