Description

Dr. Kaempf outlines the development of a risk-adjusted composite morbidity and mortality score for VLBW infants, and explores the only website-available resource utilization tool used for tracking multiple ongoing continuous quality improvement (CQI) projects within an NICU. Morbidities have complex etiologies and outcomes are intertwined; thus, an overall "Big Picture" of CQI efforts is clarifying, edifying, and a practical way to enhance overall value and family satisfaction in all NICUs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the web-based tool that NICUs can use to calculate composite morbidity and resource utilization scores.
  • Discuss future CQI efforts and what they should address.

Speaker(s):

  • Joseph Kaempf, MD, Medical Director CQI and Clinical Research, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center
