The incidence of brochopulmonary dysplasia remains significant for preterm infants despite new ventilatory technologies and strategies. Ms. Dalgleish provides a guided tour through common supportive and adjunctive interventions that may make a real difference for long-term outcomes of very low birth weight infants.

Learning Objectives:

  • State the definition of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and how it has changed over time.
  • List risk factors for BPD.
  • Identify preventative strategies to reduce bronchopulmonary dysplasia and/or its impact.

  • Stacey Dalgleish, MN, NNP, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Foothills Medical Centre, Alberta Health Services
