Prenatal diagnosis has reduced the number of babies presenting unexpectedly with congenital heart disease (CHD). There are still many infants who present, however, with respiratory distress that may signal the presence of CHD... or that might be pulmonary in origin. Dr. Karlsen focuses on important physical examination findings that help sort out whether it's the heart or the lungs. Common pulmonary etiologies and the most severe cardiac lesions are also discussed.

  • Compare and contrast the physical examination findings of severe cardiac and pulmonary disease.
  • Discriminate between the usual presentations of common pulmonary diseases versus critical cardiac structural heart disease.
