The off-label use of medications is pretty much the standard for neonatology. What is really considered to be off-label use? Why should we, perhaps, be thinking about these drug choices more than we do? Join Dr. Thigpen for a discussion that turns on the lights about off-label drugs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define and differentiate between "off label" and "investigational" and how and when these terms should be used in neonatology.
  • Describe the history of off label use of medications in neonatology and how this persistent issue continues to be addressed.
  • Discuss areas in neonatal care where increased research on drug therapy is especially indicated.

  • Jim Thigpen, PharmD. BPCS, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, ETSU Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy
