Description

In this discussion, Dr. Thigpen includes new treatments for old pathogens as well as the reemergence of some old medications. A look at technology that is being developed and may have application in the NICU is also discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the basic components of antimicrobial stewardship and describe how to overcome the challenges.
  • Explain how using drug-specific pharmacokinetics may improve the use of antibiotics in the NICU.
  • Describe how FilmArray Meningitis/Encephalitis (ME) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) panel can be used in the rapid diagnosis of bacterial meningitis in infants and how this technology may change the way we approach potential infections/infections in the future.
