Missed nursing care is a frequently theorized link between nurse workload and infant outcomes in neonatal intensive care units. We will rexplore the state of the science regarding missed nursing care in the NICU, how nurse workload affects missed care, and what the evidence means for nursing leaders.

  • Differentiate the contribution of various domains of nurse workload on the liklihood of missed nursing care in the NICU.
  • Discuss the frequency of missed nursing care in the NICU.
  • Relate system factors that contribute to high subjective workload among NICU nurses.
