Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:

Discuss possible adverse neurodeveleopmental outcomes in neonates with mild hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.
Discuss the "Maybe Baby" approach to evaluating and treating babies with Mild HIE, and understand the components of this approach.
Evaluate case reports of babies with Mild HIE and utilize the "Maybe Baby" approach to determine need for therapeutic hypothermia in each instance.

Purpose of this CNE activity: Dr. Vargas presents a novel team-based approach to evaluating and managing babies with mild HIE. His team's approach involves multi-disciplinary input and accountability and seeks to improve our ability to identify mild HIE babies that may qualify for cooling. He covers a review of recent literature and research regarding outcomes for babies with mild HIE and present their "Maybe Baby" Binder, detailing their process and how it was developed. Dr. Vargas shares some actual case scenarios in an interactive fashion and demonstrates how the tool was used to make clinical decisions in each of those cases.
