Intended Audience: All neonatal nurses

Purpose of this CNE activity: The Academy of Neonatal Nursing provides clinically current information on the technical, medical, and nursing aspects of neonatal care as well as the legal and ethical implications related to that care. This CNE activity provides information to nurses and other health care professionals who care for newborn, premature, and ill infants and their families. Specific objectives for this presentation are listed below.

Session Description: Join Dr. Berg provides the opportunity for participants to discuss the differences between palliative care and hospice care. She addresses explains the qualifying diagnosis and gives case study examples. Outcomes, ethics considerations, and quality of life are included in the discussion.

Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:

Identify and define types of futility.
Discuss basic principles of pediatric palliative care that help avoid ethical dilemmas.
Describe decision making tools and principles used to minimize risk of ethical dilemmas.

Requirements for Completion: The following requirements are necessary for successful completion of this CNE activity.

Attend/view at least 90% of the session
Complete and submit the evaluation for this CNE activity
