Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Activity: Obstetric Emergencies

Intended Audience: All mother baby nurses

Purpose of this CNE activity: The Academy of Neonatal Nursing provides clinically current information on the technical, medical, and nursing aspects of neonatal care as well as the legal and ethical implications related to that care. This CNE activity provides information to nurses and other health care professionals who care for newborn, premature, and ill infants and their families. Specific objectives for this presentation are listed below.

Session Description: Obstetric emergencies, especially those resulting in maternal or fetal morbidity or mortality, continue to occur on a daily basis throughout the world. Years after The Joint Commission's Sentinel Event Alerts on preventing maternal and infant deaths, the rates in the U.S. are higher than in other developed countries. This session focuses on select OB emergencies with an emphasis on positive nursing interventions for positive outcomes.

Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:

Discuss positive nursing interventions that can be used in obstetric emergencies to ensure more positive outcomes.

Requirements for Completion: The following requirements are necessary for successful completion of this CNE activity.

Attend/view at least 90% of the session
Complete and submit the evaluation for this CNE activity
