Intended Audience: All neonatal nurses

Purpose of this CNE activity:The Academy of Neonatal Nursing provides clinically current information on the technical, medical, and nursing aspects of neonatal care as well as the legal and ethical implications related to that care. This CNE activity provides information to nurses and other health care professionals who care for newborn, premature, and ill infants and their families. Specific objectives for this presentation are listed below.

Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:

Describe the defect and incidence of pygopagus conjoined twins.
Explain the physiology of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP).
Identify normal and abnormal levels of BNP.
List risk factors for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).
Explain pathophysiology of abnormal vascularization of the retina.
Discuss American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations for screening for ROP.
State the recommended PICC tip location for newborns.
Describe the available evidence to support the different imaging methods for PICC tip location.
Explain malpositions of PICCS that result from infant arm movements.
Define the category of "late preterm infant."
Identify risk factors that can affect feeding the late preterm infant.
Describe the normal anatomy of the kidney and nephron.
State normal values for the indices obtained with the urinalysis.
Identify pathologic conditions associated with abnormal urinalysis results.

Requirements for Completion:The following requirements are necessary for successful completion of this CNE activity.

Access to a computer with an Internet connection
Pass the posttest with a score of 80%
Complete and submit the evaluation for this CNE activity
