Purpose of this CNE activity: The Academy of Neonatal Nursing provides clinically current information on the technical, medical, and nursing aspects of neonatal care as well as the legal and ethical implications related to that care. This CNE activity provides information to nurses and other health care professionals who care for newborn, premature, and ill infants and their families. Specific objectives for this presentation are listed below.

Session Description: In recent years, surrogacy and adoption have become increasingly prevalent with the growing number of women struggling with infertility. Our speaker provides an overview of the ethics, legal issues and emotional sensitivities associated with these unique situations. Specific examples from the hospital setting, as well as general trends throughout the country, are included.

Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:

Explain the differences between surrogacy and adoption.
Describe the processes for surrogacy and adoption.
Explain the legal and ethical issues of both surrogacy and adoption.

Requirements for Completion: The following requirements are necessary for successful completion of this CNE activity.

Access to a computer with an Internet connection
Attend/view at least 90% of the session
Complete and submit the evaluation for this CNE activity
