Roger Soll graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Genetics and History of Science in 1975. He received his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences /Chicago Medical School in 1978. He then returned to his native New York to complete his residency training in pediatrics at Bellevue Hospital/New York University Medical Center in 1981. He completed the post-graduate fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of Vermont in 1983 and has remained in Vermont since that time.
Currently, he is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and Director of the NICU, the Neonatal Perinatal Medicine Fellowship program, and Quality Improvement at the NICU at Fletcher Allen Health Care.
Dr. Soll is a recognized authority in the area of clinical trials and evidence-based medicine. He has been principal or co-principal investigator on a number of trials regarding surfactant therapy. He is Vice-President and Director of Clincial Trails and Follow Up of the Vermont Oxford Network, a voluntary collaboration of over 600 NICU's worldwide.
In addition, Dr. Soll is the coordinating editor of the Cochrane Neoantal Review Group of the Cochrane Collaboration and author or coauthor of the Cochrane Reviews of surfactant therapy. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on the subjects of surfactant replacement therapy and evidence-based medicine.
