Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:

Outline the role of critical congenital heart disease screening.
Discuss the clinical presentation of:
a. hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS).
b. dextro-transposition of great arteries (D-TGA).
c. tetralogy of Fallot (TOF).
d. pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PA/IVS).
Describe the interventions and nursing implications for neonates with HLHS, D-TGA, TOF, and PA/IVS.

Purpose of this CE Activity:

four common heart defects seen in neonatal intensive care units
the typical medical and nursing care
of these neonates
common surgical management for the defects.
