Objectives: Upon completion, learners will be able to:

Articulate background history of therapeutic hypothermia.
Identify potential candidates and areas of optimization of current therapeutic hypothermia strategy.
Describe novel pharmacological and biological neuroprotective therapeutics for neonatal brain injury.

Purpose of this CNE activity: Therapeutic hypothermia is standard of care neuroprotective strategy for neonatal hypoxic-ischemic injury. Dr. Wu discusses candidates of cooling as more preterm and mild injury infants are being cooled. He further explores some of the pitfalls of cooling, and how it may be further optimized to improve outcomes. Lastly, he also provides updates on adjuvant pharmacological or biological therapies that have been proposed to be promising, in addition to hypothermia.
