UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital
Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Mattel Children's Hospital, is a 22 ICU beds unit that are regional level III/IV beds. Neonatal Nurse Practitioners are responsible for in-born and out-born babies requiring tertiary level care derived from the Greater Los Angeles area and the surrounding regions. There is a congenital cardiac program on-site; an ECMO program; and a Head/Body Cooling Program in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. There is considerable depth in all the Pediatric Medical and Surgical Subspecialties that are all available on site. A widely respected infertility and fetal diagnostic program exists at UCLA.
UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, is a 16-bed Level III NICU that provides community-based care for term and preterm infants with a variety of medical problems.
The NICU is part of a comprehensive program of women's and children's services available at the medical center and combines the best of academic and community neonatal care. The NICU admits about 200 infants per year, 55% weighing less than 2500 grams at birth. Family-centered, individualized newborn care is provided by a team of UCLA Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, neonatologists, neonatal nurses, respiratory therapists, lactation specialists, physical therapists, social workers, and family support programs, including music therapy, parent support groups, and resilience resources. Our Nurse Practitioners provide consultations, as requested by pediatricians, obstetricians, and perinatologists; attend high-risk deliveries; care for premature and critically ill newborns and follow NICU graduates in the Santa Monica UCLA High-Risk Infant Follow-up Clinic. Patient care in the NICU is additionally enhanced by the availability of pediatric subspecialists from the UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital.
